A talk about No Simple Passage An enthusiastic audience of members of the Wellington Southern Bays Historical Society came to hear the talk in Island Bay, Wellington on 20th August 2018. Jenny explored why people left the UK, what the voyage on the London in 1842 was like, and how they fared after arrival in New Zealand. Marion Findlay, photographed here with Jenny, had prepared a display featuring scenes from No Simple Passage together with other drawings and paintings of the times.
The society was admirably proactive with publicity. One member displayed a placard in the local shopping area of Island Bay during the day. Several non-members braved the unpleasant weather to come and signed up as new members after the talk.
