A talk about No Simple Passage given to the Welllington Southern Bays Historical Society on 20 August 2018.
An enthusiastic audience came to hear the talk in Island Bay on 20th August 2018. Jenny explored why people left the UK, what the voyage on the London in 1842 was like, and how they fared after arrival in New Zealand. Marion Findlay, photographed here with Jenny, had prepared a display featuring scenes from No Simple Passage together with other drawings and paintings of the times.
The society was admirably proactive with publicity. One member displayed a placard in the local shopping area of Island Bay during the day. Several non-members who braved the unpleasant weather to come signed up as new members after the talk.
